I am not a good sleeper. I was a kicker as a kid, am a talker as an adult, and possess a vivid imagination that carries over into dreams that feel totally real (I woke up the other night in a panic about being sent to prison for hoarding the world’s supply of licorice). All of this, coupled with the fact that I only really sleep well after 2 am, and – well, let’s just say beauty sleep has never really been my thing.
It’s hardly mattered in the past, however, because I’ve been dousing my face in Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair serum since I was 21, a habit I picked up from my mother along with a love for procrastination and a predilection for midnight cake (or midday cake - or anytime cake, really.)
The serum was one of the brand’s most popular products, so effective was it at plumping the skin and imparting a gorgeous, lit from within glow that made users (including celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, and practically every beauty editor in the world) look like they got a full eight hours of sleep on the regular, even if, as with me, this was far from the truth.
You know the saying – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – but that’s exactly what Estee Lauder aimed to do when they reformulated the serum last year, releasing a newer, amped up version called the Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II.
Fans needn’t have worried about the change; the new formula hasn’t been tinkered with so much as it’s been added to. Now, instead of just aiding with repairing the skin, it also helps with detoxifying it, thanks to a couple of new yeast and algae extracts and about 25 patented skincare technologies. All the patents in the world don’t matter, of course, unless the product delivers, and after a couple of months of using the new formula, I’m pleased to report the Advanced Night Repair isn’t just the same as the old formula; it’s better.
Where Version 1 needed a couple of weeks for the effects to make themselves apparent, this newer, juiced up formula shows results almost overnight; every morning, I’ve been waking up to smooth, virtually pore-less, bright skin that looks happy and well-rested. It does a gorgeous job of hydrating the skin, never clogs pores, and sinks right in, making this – still – the easiest, best part of my nightly skin regime. Change; it’s not all bad.
