It’s no secret that since their launch BB creams have amassed fan followings to rival those of many pubescent South East Asian boy bands, but if I were to be perfectly honest, I’ve never really understood the point of them.
If you were to ask me to pick out the BB cream-wearers from the foundation-wearers in a lineup of models (in what would undoubtedly be the world’s weirdest game), I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. But that was before I tried one and came to the delayed realisation that when it comes to these foundation-moisturiser hybrids, it’s not so much about how they look as it is about what they do.
The product that converted me was Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream, which claims to brighten and ‘instantly perfect’ your skin, which it does – the formula glides over any imperfections or bumps and coats the skin with a thin, almost invisible film that still somehow evens out your skin tone, so you’ve got a primer and a foundation in one. Sweet.
What sets this one apart from the rest is that it plays really well solo – no powder, no blotting necessary – unless you tend to have a bit of shine halfway through the day, in which case a quick blot with a tissue is plenty.
I can’t tell if the Vitamin C really does brighten skin, but the SPF 50 sunscreen certainly doesn’t hurt. It helps makes this a one-stop skincare solution and shaves plenty of time off the old morning makeup routine which, as anyone who likes a couple minutes extra sleep knows, is always a great thing.
Available at Kiehl’s stores nationwide.
