Stuck in Traffic? Give These 5 Beauty Podcasts A Listen

I’m sure you’ll agree when I say this: beauty vlogs and YouTube makeup tutorials are super exciting – whether or not you actually learn how to layer three shadows and then take the glitter from the outer corner of your eyes to artistically swerve in to your crease with that hard-to-find brush. It’s still therapeutic watching them! But you know what’s also fun that you might not have explored enough? Beauty podcasts! Instead of blasting music to help mentally beat traffic woes, why not pop in your earbuds and emerge significantly smarter at the other end of your commute? Interviews with influencers, chats with makeup artists, in-depth panel discussions, career inspo, lowdowns on the best products – most with episodes clocking about as long as it would take for you to go from point A to point B. And it definitely beats the radio. What a time to be alive, right?

Here are some of the coolest podcasts to keep you updated with everything beauty – have a listen!

Watching YouTube beauty tutorials is fun and everything, but there’s a lot that goes behind creating one. If you’ve always been interested in vlogging as a full-time job, then Erika Vieira’s podcast should teach you more than a thing or two. She features interesting Q&A interviews and segments with popular vloggers and experts who talk about different topics of the trade – from the ‘Secrets to YouTube Success’ and ‘Finding Your Editing Style’ to tips to garner followers and chats with YouTube stars (like Karissa Pukas and Ashley Sander) about their journeys to the top. She releases 5-8 of them a month and they span between 30 minutes to an hour. Talk about career planning on the go!

If Pantene’s so good, why isn’t it sold in salons? Should you wear anti-aging lingerie? Is DIY perfume a bad idea? Are Lush products really self-preserving? If these are all questions you’ve thought about or if they just triggered a why-didn’t-I-think-of-that-before moment, then this podcast is just the thing for you.

Perry Romanowski and Randy Schueller are both cosmetic chemists with over 50 years of experience between them, and they dispel their scientific knowledge to clear out nagging questions on all things beauty that magazines wouldn’t typically tell you. They also have guest celebrities from the business over and play fun trivia games: for example, spotting the fake among three unusual beauty products, so by the end of a 30-40 minute episode, you know stuff like which scented product – bubblegum scented sandals, cherry scented bicycle tyres, piña colada scented ukulele – is not trademarked. (The answer is cherry scented bicycle tyres, by the way! Why would those exist?)

Do you like having an insider’s look into the beauty industry? Twins Denise & Janice Tunnell should hook you up. They invite notables from the industry, like celebrity makeup artists and beauty experts from different cosmetic brands to have in-depth panel discussions and chats about – you guessed it – beauty! It’s like getting on the phone with thespians from the business and getting a crash course in their jobs. The episodes are slightly longer than average – going from an hour to an hour and a half – but if you come off knowing the exact job profile of a beauty marketing consultant or the first hand account of how it is to be on a beauty editorial shoot, it’s pretty worth it! Especially recommended for aspiring MUAs.

This podcast is a boon to those seriously involved in health and beauty. Host Deanna Lyn takes you through different issues, primarily related to anti aging. What’s great is that she’ll go into great detail and give you definitive answers, sometimes with the inputs of guest dermatologists and beauty professionals – how to prevent old lady hands, skin care for people of colour, the benefits of alkaline water, a step by step guide on how to use the Clarisonic, and literally everything you need to know about exfoliation. The episodes are both fun and informative, range from 5 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the subject, and about 3 podcasts are released every month. Feel free to think of her as your beauty godmother!

What this podcast is about: Makeup artist and beauty blogger Jennifer Duvall gives you her own tips, tricks and solutions to basic makeup.

And you don’t want to miss out just because you’re a busy bee.
