Though they definitely are a spectacular treat to the eyes, all those red carpet pictures doing frantic rounds lately (courtesy Cannes) are giving us major FOMO. But so what if you can’t be there? You don’t have to miss out on all the fun – especially those gorgeous evening makeup looks that the stars are flaunting by the plenty.
So we decided to do our own take on a glam, sparkly eye + red lip because hey, it’s one that just works every time. Master this one, and you’ll never be late to a party post work again! While looking like a million bucks.
Line your eyes thickly with a creamy brown eye pencil so it’s easy to smoke it out a bit with the shadow later. We used Lakmé Eyeconic Kajal in Brown on Payal, ending it just where the eye ends.
Using a small, fluffy eyeshadow brush, apply a light coloured shadow all over the lid so it makes a good base to pack on the glitter (we used the lightest shade in the L'oreal Paris Color Riche Les Ombres Midnight Rose Eye Shadow palette). Then, buff in a matte dark brown shadow (like Inglot Freedom System Eye Shadow Double Sparkles Square in 461) into the crease and outer corners of the eyes, and blend it out for a smokey effect.
Now comes the fun part! Pack on all that glitter – well, a good amount. It’s best to use fingers for this step to really get the product in there. Here, we used M.A.C Pro Reflects Glitter in Reflects Gold – a gorgeous, high-intensity pigment perfect for the red carpet. Or well, any party.
After applying a coat of mascara, use a small, flat brush to work in the same dark brown shadow from before under the lower lash line, in little feathery motions to smoke it out.
Now for your face: buff in some natural-looking rouge, going from the apples of your cheeks diagonally up to your temples. Don’t overdo it though – your eyes and lips are the stars here, so you don’t want to take away from that. We used L’Oréal Paris Lucent Magique Blush in Blushing Kiss.
And for the grand finale: dramatic lips! A bright red pout is a red carpet classic, so swipe on your favourite deep red (we’re loving the M.A.C Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour line, so this one’s in the shade Legacy) and you’re good to go. The paps are waiting!
