Zits: Not Just For Teens

Remember when your younger, sugar loving self could eat pretty much anything it wanted without having to worry about gaining an inch? Don’t you wish you could have that back? And the ability to stay up all night and still look (and feel) like you were totally on top of your game the next day? Wouldn’t that be handy now?

Oh, and what about the zits? Acne is probably the one thing you don't miss about beeing a teenager but if you're well past that phase and still trying to fight it, you're not alone - up to 80 per cent of adults between the ages of 20 and 40 deal with acne at least once in their life, as it turns out.

Luckily, there are a host of products out there that are designed to deal specifically with adult acne, including ones that deal with that annoying problem of having greasy, acne-prone skin that’s also starting to show signs of aging.

Most work in one of two ways – by speeding up the skin’s natural exfoliation, thereby reducing the chance of dead skin cells blocking your pores and leading to acne, or by killing existing acne-causing bacteria under the surface. The best acne-fighting products contain a mix of salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, retinol or natural extracts, but what do they do? Here's a quick breakdown of what's really in your anti-acne products, and how they work.
